Staff Development Program 2024. The 11th session on “Know your research paradigm “

Staff Development Program 2024. The 11th session on “Know your research paradigm “ was completed and it was delivered by Professor A.A.C. Abeysinghe. Aim of the programme: Enhanced Understanding of Research Paradigms: Participants gain a deeper understanding of different research paradigms, including positivism, interpretivism, and critical theory. They learn about the underlying assumptions, methodologies, and epistemological associated with each paradigm. Improved Research Design Skills: Participants learn how to select and apply appropriate research paradigms, methodologies, and methods based on their research questions, objectives, and theoretical frameworks. This can lead to more rigorous and effective research designs. Increased Methodological Awareness: By exploring different research paradigms, participants become more aware of the strengths and limitations of various research methods and approaches. This enables them to make informed decisions about their research methodologies and data collection techniques. Critical Thinking and Reflection: Engaging with different research paradigms encourages participants to critically reflect on their own research practices, assumptions, and biases. This fosters a more nuanced and reflective approach to research inquiry. Contribution to Research Culture: By deepening their understanding of research paradigms, participants contribute to a culture of scholarly inquiry and academic rigor within their institutions. They serve as role models and mentors for colleagues and students interested in research. Application to Teaching and Supervision: Participants can apply their knowledge of research paradigms to enhance their teaching and supervision practices. Research Impact and Quality: Ultimately, contributes to the overall quality and impact of research conducted within the institution. Participants are better equipped to produce high-quality, methodologically rigorous research that advances knowledge and addresses real-world challenges.
