The Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Colombo cordially invites you to a crucial awareness session on Mental Health & Counselling for Academic Staff. As educators and mentors, we play a vital role in supporting our students’ well-being. 

This session aims to equip you with essential knowledge and skills to provide effective psychological support and guidance.

Agenda for the Day:

  •  Session 1: Role and Practices of Student Mentoring & Psychological Support
  •  Time: 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
  •  Resource Person: Dr. Anuprabha Wickramasinghe (MBBS, MD Psychiatry, MSc Neuroscience (KCL), FRCPsych), Consultant Psychiatrist & Senior Lecturer, Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine, UoC

Objective: This session will explore effective mentoring techniques, early identification of students facing mental health challenges, and best practices for providing psychological support within the academic environment.

  •  Session 2: Addressing Counselling Issues of Learners – The Role of Academic Staff
  •  Time: 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
  •  Resource Person: Chair Professor Manjula Vithanapathirana (Chair Professor in Educational Psychology, Faculty of Education, UoC & Director General, NIE, Sri Lanka)

Objective: This session will provide insights into common counselling challenges faced by students, strategies for academic staff to effectively support learners, and the role of academics in fostering a mentally healthy learning environment.
