Field Visit to Wichy Plantation (Pvt) Ltd – Wariyapola
On 10th September 2025, the 2nd Year undergraduates of the Department of Business Economics visited the central processing plant of Wichy Plantation (Pvt) Ltd in Wariyapola. Established in 1984, Wichy Plantation is one of Sri Lanka’s leading coconut-based product manufacturers and exporters, producing items such as coconut milk, cream, desiccated coconut, and virgin coconut oil. During the visit, students learned about production management, maintaining international quality standards, workforce coordination, and product diversification. The experience provided valuable insights into industrial operations and export-oriented agribusiness, offering practical knowledge that will benefit students in both their academic and professional development

Field Visit to Sigiriya
On 27th August 2025, the 3rd Year students of the Department of Business Economics visited Sigiriya as part of their Economics of Tourism course. The main purpose of the visit was to gain practical experience in understanding how tourism contributes to the economy. Students interacted with both local and foreign tourists by distributing questionnaires to collect information about their experiences, satisfaction levels, and expectations. This activity helped them apply classroom theories to real-world tourism analysis. Beyond the academic aspect, students also enjoyed exploring the beauty and historical significance of Sigiriya, making the visit both educational and memorable.

Field Visit to Ansell Lanka (Pvt) Ltd – Biyagama
On 29th August 2025 and 17th September 2025, the 3rd Year undergraduates of the Industrial Economics course visited Ansell Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, situated in the Biyagama Export Processing Zone. The field visit aimed to provide students with practical insights into industrial operations, technological applications, and sustainability initiatives within a leading multinational manufacturing environment. Students observed advanced production systems, automation, and continuous improvement practices, linking theoretical knowledge with real-world operations. This visit enhanced their understanding of Sri Lanka’s industrial sector, global competitiveness, and the role of innovation in economic development.

Establishment of Research Hub
Research Hub the newly established subsidiary of the prestigious Business Economics Students’ Association (BESA), dedicated to fostering a culture of innovation and advancing research and development within the academic sphere.
The official establishment of the Research Hub took place on 29th August 2023, graced with the presence of Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo, Senior Prof. (chair) H.D. Karunaratne, the Dean of the Faculty of Management and Finance Prof. M.P.P. Dharmadasa and the Head of the Department of Business Economics Prof. Nihal Hennayake, as a part of the very first economic dialogue organized by BESA.
