About the Doctoral Colloquium

This year, we are opening the doctoral colloquium to researchers in all higher degree programmes (PhD, DBA, MPhil, MBA, MSc) to enable a wider audience of early career researchers to gain benefit. You may benefit from participating in one or more of the sessions we have organized with researchers of all postgraduate levels and different research traditions in mind.
The doctoral colloquium has three sessions. You can decide which sessions you want to participate in depending on your requirements and interests:

1.     Expert panel discussion (free event):

‘Managing your postgraduate research:Tips, tricks and pitfalls’

This discussion will provide you with valuable information on managing your research journey from identifying a research problem to submitting your dissertation. The panel will comprise experts representing different research traditions [quantitative (primary data / secondary data) and qualitative research], with abundant experience in supervising postgraduate research. Drawing on their wealth of experience and expertise, they will share ‘tips and tricks’ to manage your project and show you how to avoid ‘pitfalls’ in the journey.

The Panel

Senior Professor Prabhath Jayasinghe

Professor (Chair) Tharusha Gooneratne

Professor Dushan Jayawickrama

Professor Dinesh Samarasinghe

2.      Present your work to a panel of experts:

Here you will get the opportunity to present your work to a panel of experts and get their feedback.

3.     Individual consultation with an expert:

We will pair you with an expert in your area to discuss your project person-to-person and get advice on any issues you want to discuss. If there is any expert in the Sri Lankan State University system whom you would love to meet and discuss your research, please let us know his/her name and affiliation. We will do our best to pair you with the expert of your choice. If we fail, we will match you with another suitable scholar.

Please note that our ability to accommodate you in this session will be subject to the availability of experts and the number of applicants. We will try to accommodate the maximum number of applicants.

You may participate in one or more of these sessions as you wish. The first session is free of charge. The others will require a nominal registration fee (a single fee for participating in one or both of the second and third sessions).
